Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to introduce a comprehensive transport policy in the province’s history.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Policy 2026 will be the first policy of its kind in the province and among other provinces in the country. It will be formally implemented after approval by the provincial cabinet.
A consultative session on the draft policy was held at a local hotel on Friday, bringing together stakeholders from various institutions and departments.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan attended the session as chief guest.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary Transport Muhammad Zubair, Managing Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority Iftikhar Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of TransPeshawar Dr Murtaza Bukhari, the Secretary of the Provincial Transport Authority, the Director of Transport, and representatives of other government departments and institutions.
During the session, participants shared suggestions and recommendations on the draft policy, while lead consultant Dr Akhtar Ali Shah gave a detailed presentation on its key features, objectives and major components.
Samiullah Khan said introducing a transport policy was a matter of pride for the province and credited the transport department team for the achievement.
He said no other province had introduced such a comprehensive transport policy before.
He added that the government would continue to launch effective projects to improve the transport sector by taking inputs from the public and stakeholders.
He said the vision of public service and welfare set by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founding chairman Imran Khan would continue to guide development efforts.
Samiullah Khan said the provincial government, under Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, would continue working with transparency and a public-friendly approach.
