The Khewra Salt Mine has temporarily stopped tourist entry until the end of the monsoon season due to heavy rains and seasonal maintenance. According to sources, authorities have closed the tourist attraction for maintenance and upkeep during the rainy season.
Malik Mohammad Naeem, manager of the Punjab Minerals Development Corporation at the Khewra Salt Mines, confirmed that authorities have stopped visitor entry until the monsoon season ends.
He said heavy rains have raised water levels in ponds inside the mine and increased moisture levels in the area. Naeem assured visitors that the mine remains safe and said authorities will reopen it after the monsoon season.
He urged people planning to visit the site to postpone their trips until authorities reopen the mine. The Khewra Salt Mine, located in Jhelum district, attracts tourists from across Pakistan and other countries. The mine also ranks among the world’s largest sources of pink salt.
