Karachi University Introduces New Rules for On-Campus Events

The University of Karachi administration has made prior approval mandatory for all programs and events on campus, while the attendance of guests invited to such programs will also require approval from the competent authority (the Vice Chancellor) through the Registrar’s Office.

Following the new rule, no academic program or event can be held at the University of Karachi, nor can any political or non-political guests participate, without the Vice Chancellor’s prior approval.

A formal notification has been issued by the University of Karachi Registrar in this regard.

The move comes as a series of programs have been held at the university before the semester break. A day earlier, MQM-Pakistan leader and Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal attended an event held by the Department of Computer Science.

Provincial Minister for Boards and Universities Ismail Rahu was also scheduled to attend the event’s concluding session.

Earlier, a programme under the Department of Mass Communication was attended by social media influencers, former federal minister Asad Umar and television drama personalities.

The notification informs all deans, directors and departmental heads that prior approval from the Vice Chancellor through the Registrar is mandatory for holding any program, seminar, conference or other event inside the university.

All concerned officials have been strictly directed to submit their applications for approval at least 15 days before the proposed program date, complete with details and relevant documents on the prescribed proforma.

No program or event will be held without prior approval from the competent authority through the Registrar. Invitations to any minister, dignitary or other special guests will only be issued by the Registrar’s Office on behalf of the relevant department, and only after approval from the competent authority. Departments will not be able to issue invitations directly.

The notification further states that any violation of these instructions will be taken seriously and may invite disciplinary action under the university’s relevant rules.
