Karachi Police Officer Caught With Fake Number Plate

A police officer was caught driving a vehicle fitted with a fake number plate in Karachi, ARY News reported.

According to police, SHO Yousuf Plaza Waqar Awan was travelling in the vehicle when it was stopped near Artillery Maidan. Safe City cameras identified the vehicle as being within the jurisdiction of Artillery Maidan police station.

Police first took Waqar Awan to the Artillery Maidan police station and later handed him over to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell for investigation.

Central District Police suspended the SHO on Tuesday evening and also removed him from his post. Officials said departmental action will also be taken against him.

AVLC police said the investigation is underway.

Separately, Karachi police suspended Manghopir SHO Raja Zulfiqar after the killing of a 15-year-old boy who resisted a robbery on Monday. AIG Karachi Azad Khan suspended him over his failure to control crime in the area.

The victim’s parents staged a protest outside Manghopir Police Station, alleging that robbers entered their home and shot their son dead.

They said he had memorised the Holy Quran, recently passed his matriculation exams with high marks, and was the only brother of eight sisters. They also alleged that two of the robbers were wearing police uniforms.
