The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has launched a formal investigation into alleged irregularities in examination center changes made by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) during the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examinations.
According to the inquiry, BSEK initially designated 559 examination centers, but around 147 were later canceled and 117 new centers were created. The ACE has also taken note of approximately 72 requests submitted by private schools and institutions seeking changes to examination centers.
The investigation is examining allegations that some of the changes were made to benefit certain private schools.
In two recent letters, the ACE directed BSEK Controller of Examinations Ahmed Khan Chutto to produce the original records within two days and ensure that a well-informed and responsible official appears before the inquiry officer to record a statement.
The ACE has sought the complete record of SSC annual examinations, including the procedure followed for fixing and allocating examination centers, to compare the process adopted in 2026 with previous examinations.
It has also demanded details of the 147 canceled centers, including the dates and reasons for their cancellation.
For the 117 newly created centers, the ACE has sought their dates of creation, justification, candidate allocation, and physical capacity.
The probe follows a departmental inquiry ordered by Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahu after allegations surfaced over the management of examination centers during the 2026 matric exams.
The departmental committee reportedly found that examination centers had been changed shortly before the exams without proper approval or justification and recommended action against officials involved.
The minister later approved the departmental inquiry report and referred the matter to the ACE for further investigation.
A separate investigation is also underway into allegations that BSEK officials altered students’ examination results in exchange for bribes.
