The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory as rain and thunderstorms are expected across several districts of the province from September 13 to 16.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a monsoon low that developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha coast has moved into South Chhattisgarh and nearby areas.
The Met Office said the weather system is expected to move westward. As a result, several parts of Sindh may receive rain and thunderstorms during the forecast period.
The PMD has predicted light rain and thunderstorms in Karachi from September 14 to 16. Meanwhile, several other districts may experience dust-thunderstorm rain.
The weather department also warned that some areas could receive moderate to isolated heavy rainfall. Strong winds and thunderstorms may accompany the rain.
Under the influence of the system, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan are expected to receive dust-thunderstorm rain from Sunday evening until September 16. A few areas may also experience moderate to isolated heavy rainfall, with occasional breaks during the spell.
Meanwhile, light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain is expected in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro from September 14 to 16. The rain may occur intermittently.
Karachi Division could also experience thunderstorms and light rain during the same period, according to the PDMA advisory.
Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation Giyanchand Essrani said different parts of the province were likely to receive rain between September 13 and 16.
He directed all deputy commissioners and relevant departments to keep staff and machinery ready to respond to any situation caused by the weather.
Essrani also instructed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert throughout the forecast period.
In addition, the PDMA asked deputy commissioners, chairpersons of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), relevant departments and other stakeholders to take necessary mitigation measures.
The authority also urged all concerned departments to remain vigilant and adopt precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident during the expected rain spell.
