Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has made an incorrect claim about legendary Australian batter Sir Don Bradman, saying he never hit a six during his Test career.
Akmal made the claim during a television discussion while talking about Bradman’s extraordinary batting record.
During the conversation, the show’s anchor questioned the statement and suggested that Bradman had actually hit around five or six sixes in Test cricket.
However, Akmal disagreed and insisted that Bradman had not hit any sixes during his Test career.
How Many Sixes Did Don Bradman Actually Hit?
Cricket records show that Akmal’s claim is incorrect.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Bradman hit six sixes during his 52-match Test career.
The Australian great scored 6,996 Test runs at an astonishing average of 99.94, including 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
Bradman preferred to keep the ball on the ground and rarely attempted aerial shots. As a result, he hit only six sixes despite dominating Test cricket for two decades.
Interestingly, all six of Bradman’s Test sixes came against left-arm bowlers.
Bradman Hit Five Sixes Against England
Five of Bradman’s six Test sixes came against England, while the remaining one came against India.
His first Test six came against England during the famous 1932-33 Bodyline series in Adelaide. He struck left-arm spinner Hedley Verity over the boundary.
Bradman then hit four sixes during the 1934 Ashes series in England.
His sixth and final Test six came more than 13 years later against India in Adelaide during the 1947-48 series, when he struck Vinoo Mankad for six.
