Junior Clerk Fired and Fined Rs. 1 Million for Harassing Female Officer in Islamabad

A junior clerk at a government institution in Islamabad has been dismissed from service and fined Rs. 1 million for harassing a female officer at the workplace.

Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Fozia Waqar announced the decision after hearing a complaint filed against the clerk.

The complaint alleged that the clerk harassed the female officer at her workplace. After hearing the case, the ombudsperson ordered his dismissal from service and imposed a Rs. 1 million fine.

Another person was also accused of facilitating the alleged harassment. However, the allegation could not be proven during the proceedings, resulting in the complaint against him being dismissed.

The Federal Ombudsperson recently also fined a government officer Rs. 500,000 for repeatedly harassing a female colleague through insulting, gender-based remarks.

According to the ruling, the officer mocked the woman over her inability to have children and repeatedly compared her to a transgender person. The ombudsperson found that the remarks were deliberately used to humiliate her at the workplace.

The ruling stated that such behavior has no place in a professional environment and constitutes workplace harassment. The officer was consequently ordered to pay the Rs. 500,000 fine.
