Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shoichi, has inaugurated the Tain Girls Model Primary School in the suburban area of Tarnol, Islamabad, with the support of the Japanese government.
The Government of Japan provided financial assistance of $44,025 for the project through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) program.
The project was completed by the Community Services Program, a non-governmental organisation working across Pakistan to improve vulnerable and marginalised communities through education, healthcare, clean water and women’s empowerment.
The organisation successfully completed the school’s construction, which includes eight classrooms and other essential facilities such as the principal’s office, washrooms, a Playground and chairs for 250 students. The newly built school provides a safe, comfortable and modern learning environment for 240 enrolled students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu Shoichi congratulated the organisers on the project’s successful completion despite difficult weather conditions.
He stressed that education is not only a basic human right and a fundamental pillar of human security, but also the foundation of a better and more prosperous society. He said girls’ education in particular is essential for Pakistan’s future, which is why education remains a core priority of Japan’s development cooperation in Pakistan.
The ambassador reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s sustainable development and expressed hope that the school would stand as an enduring symbol of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and Pakistan.
