Islamabad recorded more than 4,500 criminal incidents during the first nine months of 2026, leaving six people dead and 44 injured, while residents lost cash and valuables worth over Rs. 3 billion.
According to Islamabad Police data, at least 4,504 cases of armed robbery, snatching, burglary, theft, and vehicle theft were registered between January 1 and September 30. Of the 44 people injured, 22 suffered gunshot wounds.
The reported losses included more than Rs. 998 million in cash, valuables worth Rs. 1.69 billion, 868 tolas of gold, 97 vehicles, 1,905 motorcycles, and 1,781 mobile phones.
Police sources claimed the actual number of incidents and financial losses could be higher, as several FIRs involving foreigners and influential individuals were reportedly kept confidential.
During the period, police registered 993 robbery cases, including 28 at houses and 40 at commercial centers. Nine incidents involved the kidnapping of victims, while one was allegedly committed by police personnel and another by individuals posing as officials.
These robberies resulted in five deaths and 35 injuries. Victims lost more than Rs. 297 million in cash and valuables worth Rs. 155 million, along with gold, vehicles, motorcycles, and mobile phones.
Another 10 cases of armed dacoity were reported, leaving one person dead and four injured. Criminals looted more than Rs. 26 million in cash and valuables worth Rs. 9.5 million.
Police also recorded 551 snatching incidents involving more than Rs. 115 million in cash and Rs. 40 million in valuables.
Meanwhile, 627 burglary cases were registered, including 512 at houses, with losses exceeding Rs. 151 million in cash and Rs. 447 million in valuables.
The city also reported 1,304 theft cases, including 485 at houses and 143 at commercial centers. These incidents involved more than Rs. 407 million in cash and valuables worth Rs. 809 million.
Other stolen items included gold, mobile phones, laptops, vehicle batteries, tires, transformers, bicycles, and 105 animals. Two Safe City cameras and other equipment were also reported stolen.
Separately, police registered 84 vehicle theft cases and 1,667 motorcycle theft cases during the same period.
Overall, 518 criminal incidents were reported at houses and 187 at commercial centers.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations Ali Waseem said police had arrested criminals and recovered stolen valuables.
He promised to share details of arrests and recoveries, but the information had not been provided three days later despite repeated requests.
