Islamabad Police Removes 12 Checkposts From Busy Roads

Islamabad Police have reduced the number of checkposts on busy roads from 24 to 12 and increased mobile patrolling to improve security and ease traffic congestion in the federal capital.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (r) Sohail Chaudhry shared the details during a meeting with a delegation of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association (IHCJA).

He said checkposts at E-7, F-7, Daman-i-Koh, and Motorway Link Road had been removed to facilitate commuters. The remaining checkposts are also being streamlined to reduce traffic disruptions while maintaining security.

According to the IGP, police are shifting their focus from fixed checkpoints to mobile patrolling to prevent crime and respond more quickly to incidents.

He also said he had directed officials to remove containers from roads immediately once the situation in Islamabad returned to normal, allowing residents to resume their daily activities without unnecessary restrictions.

Regarding traffic violations, Chaudhry said the police were revising their approach to registering First Information Reports (FIRs) for speeding and minor traffic offenses to prevent people with clean records from being unnecessarily stigmatized.

However, vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers will be impounded until the drivers obtain valid licenses.
