The federal capital’s emergency response capability is set for its biggest boost since 2009, with 21 new rescue and firefighting vehicles arriving at Karachi Port and set to be added to the Capital Emergency Service (CES) and Fire Brigade fleets.
The new fleet includes four aerial fire trucks, six fire towers and five fire tenders equipped with modern rescue and firefighting equipment. According to a briefing given to the interior minister, the specialized vehicles can conduct firefighting and rescue operations at heights of up to 256 feet.
The expansion is expected to strengthen emergency response capabilities, particularly for high-rise buildings, major fires, traffic accidents and complex rescue operations.
The fleet upgrade comes as the CES, operated by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), continues to shoulder a heavy emergency workload across Islamabad.
The service responded to 1,475 emergency calls in September 2026 alone, including medical emergencies, traffic accidents, fires and rescue operations.
Medical emergencies accounted for the largest share of the response, with 1,152 calls handled during the month. These included 544 medical emergencies, 433 traffic accidents, 120 miscellaneous cases, 46 fall-related incidents, six crime-related cases and three drowning incidents.
A total of 1,013 victims were involved in the reported emergencies, including 979 injured or ill people and 34 fatalities. CES teams provided treatment to 148 patients at the scene, while 865 were shifted to medical facilities.
The service also responded to 82 fire incidents during September, comprising 29 electrical fires, 10 house fires, six vehicle fires, two LPG, gas or liquid-related incidents, 17 fires in buildings or commercial areas, seven green-area fires and 11 garbage fires.
CES teams carried out 123 rescue operations during the month, including 44 water drainage operations, 11 operations involving mountainous areas, wells or trapped people, 65 animal rescues, one collapsed structure operation and two fallen-tree operations.
The service also performed 100 emergency and event-cover duties and 18 motorcade duties during September, bringing such deployments to 118. The CES provides round-the-clock emergency assistance across the federal capital.
