Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed serious displeasure over poor arrangements and delays during a surprise visit to the Passport Office in Lahore’s Garden Town on Wednesday.
Naqvi found long queues of citizens waiting to obtain their passports, with several counters operating without staff. Applicants complained of waiting for hours, while some said they had arrived early in the morning but still had not received their turn.
Citizens also raised concerns about agents operating outside the passport office and allegedly charging money to expedite services. One applicant told the minister that he had paid an agent Rs. 5,500 for the service.
Naqvi expressed strong anger over the situation and ordered the removal of Passport Office In Charge Deputy Director Shehzad Aslam over mismanagement and negligence.
He also ordered the removal of the Deputy Director Anti Corruption FIA Lahore over the presence of agents outside the passport office. The minister issued immediate instructions to resolve the citizens’ complaints and personally apologized to those affected.
He said the government would not compromise on providing fast and efficient services at passport offices and warned that authorities would take disciplinary action against officials responsible for negligence.
