IMF to Tell Pakistan What to Sell Next

A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to meet officials of Pakistan’s Privatisation Commission as part of the ongoing discussions on the country’s economic reform program, sources told ProPakistani.

The IMF team will receive an update on the government’s privatization program and the progress made on reforms linked to state-owned entities.

The privatization process for three power distribution companies has also moved forward. Expressions of interest (EOIs) have been received for Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), sources said.

Government officials are expected to brief the IMF delegation on the latest developments involving the three companies and the next steps in their privatization process.

Privatization and restructuring of state-owned enterprises remain part of Pakistan’s broader reform commitments under the IMF program.

The discussions with the Privatisation Commission are part of the IMF’s ongoing review of Pakistan’s economic reform program.
