The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed UAE batter Asif Khan a 15-month ban after he tested positive for a prohibited substance during an out-of-competition doping test.
The 36-year-old provided a sample on September 8, 2025, which tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance.
Asif admitted to violating Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code and accepted the 15-month period of ineligibility through a Case Resolution Agreement involving the ICC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The ban has been backdated to September 8, 2025, and will remain in effect until December 7, 2026.
Under the terms of his suspension, Asif will be allowed to return to training with a team or use the facilities of a club or another ICC Member organization from October 8, 2026.
However, he will not be eligible to return to competitive cricket until December 8, 2026, following the completion of his suspension.
The ICC has also disqualified Asif’s individual results recorded between September 8, 2025, and December 29, 2025, when his provisional suspension began.
As a result, he will lose any medals, points, prize money and other awards earned during the affected period.
Asif Khan has been a key member of the UAE cricket team since making his international debut in 2022. He has represented the side in 38 One-Day Internationals and 56 T20 Internationals.
The suspension means the experienced batter will remain unavailable for competitive cricket for the remainder of 2026.
