The Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) has approved several changes to Pakistan’s examination and equivalence system, including greater flexibility for foreign-board students seeking Science Group equivalence.
At its 184th Forum meeting in Murree, the commission decided that students from foreign boards who have passed at least two science subjects can receive Science Group equivalence.
The forum also recommended 12 additional Deeni Madaris for SSC and HSSC equivalence, taking the total number of institutions covered under the framework to 26. The IBCC agreed to include B-Form or CNIC numbers on SSC and HSSC certificates. The move is intended to make academic records easier to identify, access and verify.
The commission will also provide scholarships and overseas exposure opportunities to board toppers. Winter and summer camps will be organized for high-achieving students to provide additional learning, leadership and exposure opportunities.
The two-day meeting focused on shifting Pakistan’s examination system away from rote learning toward conceptual assessment, while improving transparency, uniformity and international recognition of Pakistani qualifications. Chairpersons of BISEs from across Pakistan, technical education boards and senior representatives of curriculum and textbook boards attended the forum.
