Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China, bringing a redesigned tri-folding smartphone with an inward-folding hinge, a new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, and a hardware-based privacy display similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The new foldable also introduces an updated camera layout, a larger battery, and Huawei’s HarmonyOS 7 software.
Design and Display
The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design features a new G-shaped hinge that folds inward. Huawei says its cover display is now protected by basalt glass, which offers improved resistance to drops and scratches compared with the previous generation.
The cover screen is a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO panel with a Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness.
When fully unfolded, the phone provides a 10.2-inch OLED LTPO display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 3K resolution, and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio. The inner screen also includes a hardware privacy display similar to the feature offered on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The phone measures just 3.5mm thick when unfolded and 12.3mm when folded. It weighs 299 grams and comes with an IP58/IP59 rating for water and dust resistance.
Huawei has also equipped the phone with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and touch-sensitive buttons on both sides. These buttons can be used to record an ECG.
The Mate XT 2 is available in Black, Purple, and White. It also supports the M-Pen 3 stylus.
Internals and Software
The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is powered by Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. Huawei claims the new processor is more than 42% faster than the chipset used in the Mate XT.
The company has also upgraded the phone’s NPU and GPU for improved processing and graphics performance.
The phone runs HarmonyOS 7 and can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.
Connectivity options include 5G, dual 4G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 LE, GPS, satellite communication, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port.
Cameras
Huawei has moved the rear camera system to the center panel on the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design.
The setup includes a 50MP RYYB LOFIC primary camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor. It is joined by a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera.
The phone also features Huawei’s third-generation Red Maple color sensor.
For selfies and video calls, the Mate XT 2 has an 8MP camera on both the cover display and the internal screen.
Battery and Pricing
The Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design packs a 5,600mAh battery. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design starts at $2,980 in China for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage model.
The top-end 16GB/2TB special edition costs a whopping $4,470. This version also includes the M-Pen 3 stylus.
