Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can now apply for bank financing online through SMEConnect, the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) new digital portal. The process takes a few steps: create an account, verify your business bank account, fill in your business details, and submit a financing request to your bank.
SBP has shared a step-by-step video tutorial on how to use the platform, which is available at smeconnect.sbp.org.pk. The portal connects SMEs and banks on a single platform and can be used in either English or Urdu.
The guide matters because, from November 1, 2026, all SME financing applications will be received only through SMEConnect, as ProPakistani reported earlier. Here is how to apply.
Step 1: Check Eligibility and Create an Account
Visit the SMEConnect portal. Its home page shows the eligibility criteria for SME financing, an outline of the application process, and quick links to related bodies such as the SBP, SECP, FBR, SMEDA, and the SBP’s Sunwai complaint service.
Existing users can log in with their email address and password or continue with Google. New users should click “Please Register” to create an account.
On the registration form, enter your full name, mobile number, email address, gender, CNIC, and a password, then accept the terms of service. You will receive a security code on your email address or mobile number. Enter it to complete registration.
Step 2: Verify Your Business Bank Account
Next, enter the IBAN of the bank account you mainly use for business transactions. The portal fills in the bank’s name automatically from the IBAN and verifies it.
If you don’t have a bank account, you will need to open one first. If you have accounts in more than one bank, enter the IBAN of the bank from which you want to receive the financing.
Step 3: Add Your Business Information
Once the IBAN is verified, the portal lets you fill in your business details. These include the business name, owner’s CNIC, business email address, nature of business, NTN, business status, address, year of establishment, annual sales, business premises, and registration authority.
Click “Save & Continue”, check the summary of your business profile, and confirm to save it. You will then land on your dashboard, which shows the number of applications that are in draft, submitted, under review, approved, rejected, and disbursed.
Step 4: Apply for Financing
On the dashboard, click “Apply for New Financing”. The application has three stages: business information, financing, and review.
In the financing section, enter the details of the loan you need, such as the mode of financing, the amount you are requesting, and the tenor. The tutorial shows Islamic financing as one of the available modes.
Step 5: Review and Submit
After filling in all the details, review the information carefully. If you are not ready to apply yet, you can save the application as a draft and come back to it later.
To apply, click “Submit Application”, read the undertaking, and click “Agree & Submit”. The portal will then show your application reference, including a case ID, the submission date, the assigned bank, and the status of the application. The SBP notes that approval of the financing is subject to the bank’s own assessment.
What Happens After You Apply
You can check the status of your application at any time through the “Track Application” option. The relevant bank will contact you on the mobile number or email address you provided for further processing.
According to the SBP, if the information and documents you provided are complete and correct, the bank will decide on your financing application within the time frame set under the central bank’s instructions.
To log in again later, enter your registered email address and password, followed by the six-digit OTP sent to your mobile number or email. If you forget your password, you can reset it through the “Forgot Password” option.
Where to Get Help
For more information or guidance on SMEConnect or SME financing, you can contact your bank or the SBP helpline. The portal lists the email address smeconnect@sbp.org.pk and the number +92 21 111 727 273 for queries.
Complaints can be filed through the SBP’s Sunwai portal or its mobile app. The platform is part of the SBP’s push to expand credit to small businesses, which earlier saw the central bank raise SME financing limits to up to Rs. 500 million.
