Pakistan Single Window (PSW) continues to advance workplace equity through Mat2Work, a three-month transition program designed to help new mothers return to work after maternity leave. The initiative reflects PSW’s commitment to supporting women’s careers in Pakistan’s digital trade ecosystem.
Pakistan’s female labour force participation stands at 24.4%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ Labour Force Survey 2024–25. For new mothers, balancing professional responsibilities with caregiving needs highlights the importance of workplace arrangements that enable a sustainable return. Mat2Work addresses this transition through pre-return planning sessions, customized transition plans, flexible hours and hybrid work arrangements. Its phased approach gives returning mothers time to readjust to their roles as they navigate the demands of parenthood.
Complementing the program, PSW’s on-site Day Care Centre in Karachi provides practical childcare support for working parents. Together, these measures connect structured reintegration after maternity leave with ongoing support once parents are back at work.
“Returning to work after childbirth can be both rewarding and challenging. Mat2Work reflects our strategic commitment to creating an empathetic, family-friendly workplace that supports new mothers in returning to work and continuing to grow in their careers,” said Syed Sohaib Hassan, Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) of PSW.
This commitment has particular relevance to PSW’s technical workforce. Approximately 89% of its female employees work in core technical roles, while 41% are at management level (G-3 to G-6). Enabling women to navigate motherhood alongside their professional responsibilities is therefore an important consideration for the organization’s approach to talent retention and development.
Mat2Work forms part of PSW’s broader diversity, equity and inclusion framework, supported by pay parity reviews, workplace awareness and professional development. From FY 2025–26 to date, 70% of PSW’s female employees have participated in training, professional certifications or other learning opportunities. These opportunities complement the program’s focus on returning to work by supporting continued career growth.
Through this approach, PSW aims to build a workplace where women have the flexibility, practical assistance and development opportunities to pursue long-term careers in technology.
