HomeView Launched as Part of Apple’s New Smart Home Push
Apple has announced the HomeView, a new smart home hub powered by the latest version of Siri with Apple Intelligence.
The device will be available in both desktop and wall-mounted versions, with sales scheduled to begin next month.
Design and Display
The standard HomeView features a floating display attached to a rounded aluminum base.
The screen is mounted on a hinge and can be tilted to adjust the viewing angle.
Apple will offer the standard model in Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink, and Space Gray, with matching cables.
The wall-mounted version only includes the display module and will work with different mounts from Schneider Home. It will be available in Silver and Space Gray.
HomeView uses a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1,088 x 1,088 pixels and a pixel density of 220ppi.
The display can reach up to 500 nits of brightness and dim down to 0.3 nits.
It also supports True Tone, which adjusts the screen’s color temperature based on ambient lighting, and includes a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.
Audio and Microphones
Both HomeView versions include two full-range speakers inside the display.
The standard desktop model adds a downfiring woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators inside the base.
HomeView supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and uses computational audio to adjust sound tuning based on its surroundings.
The device also includes four far-field microphones for voice commands.
It can recognize the sound of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
12MP Camera With Center Stage
HomeView includes a 12MP f/2.4 ultrawide camera for video calls.
Apple has also added Center Stage, which automatically crops and follows users as they move around during a call.
A18 Chip and Siri With Apple Intelligence
The HomeView is powered by Apple’s A18 chip and runs custom software designed specifically for the smart home device.
The new Siri with Apple Intelligence handles voice requests.
Users can begin a conversation on HomeView and continue it on another compatible Apple device, such as an iPhone or iPad. Conversations can also move in the opposite direction.
Recognizes Up to Six Users
HomeView can identify up to six different people in a household. Once recognized, it can provide personalized options and information from each person’s Apple devices.
Features such as replying to iMessages and emails are only available to recognized users. Shared content, including iCloud photo libraries and music, can be accessed by anyone in the household.
Each user can also personalize the HomeView home screen with their own widgets.
The HomeView supports Wi-Fi 802.11ax with MIMO, Bluetooth 6.0, and Thread networking for connected smart home devices.
Price and Availability
The Apple HomeView costs $299 for both the standard desktop model and the wall-mounted version.
Wall mounts are sold separately.
The HomeView will go on sale on Friday, November 13.
Apple will not offer the device in the European Union because of regulations affecting Siri AI.
