The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has warned students and graduates against a fake notification circulating on social media that claims to establish equivalence between engineering technology degrees and conventional engineering qualifications.
The document, dated October 29, 2026, claims that HEC has declared a Bachelor of Technology (Honors) in Engineering or BSc Engineering Technology (Honors) equivalent to a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or BSc Engineering degree.
It also claims that a Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) qualifies as 14 years of education in the relevant engineering discipline and allows holders to seek lateral entry into BE, BSc Engineering, and engineering technology programs, subject to university admission requirements.
However, HEC has categorically rejected the document, clarifying that it did not issue the notification. The commission advised students, graduates, the general public, and other stakeholders not to rely on or circulate the misleading document.
HEC also urged the public to consult its official website and verified social media accounts for authentic information and notifications.
