Heavy Snowfall Blankets Kaghan Valley

Heavy snowfall blanketed Kaghan Valley on Monday, causing a sharp drop in temperatures and making roads slippery for motorists. Police temporarily suspended traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan because of hazardous conditions on the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad (MNJ) Road.

A police official said crews had cleared the road for traffic up to Naran, the commercial hub of Kaghan Valley. However, police temporarily barred tourists from traveling beyond Naran toward Babusar Top until weather conditions improved.

Snowfall began early Monday morning at Babusar Top, Saiful Muluk Lake, Battakundi, Basal, Lolosar Lake, Naran and other parts of the valley. The snowfall continued intermittently throughout the day.

Hussain Deen, chairman of the Kaghan Valley Hotel Association, said tourists continued visiting the valley to enjoy the snowfall, as authorities allowed traffic up to Naran. He advised motorists to exercise caution while traveling between Balakot and Naran because of slippery road conditions and avoid reckless driving.

Abdul Rasheed Tanoli, sub-divisional officer of wildlife in Kaghan Valley, said the snowfall had made temperatures drop across the region. He said four-wheel-drive vehicles could still travel on the road connecting Naran with Saiful Muluk Lake, while tourists continued arriving to enjoy the valley’s scenery.
