Heavy Rain and Flash Floods Terrorize Gilgit Baltistan

Flash floods triggered by cloudbursts have disrupted life in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, damaging homes, farmland and orchards and blocking major roads.

Heavy rain caused flooding in several areas of Ghizer early Saturday. This act of nature damaged many houses, crops and agricultural land in the region.

Naubahar village was among the worst-hit areas, where floodwater damaged the Gushgush Jamaat Khana and destroyed crops, fruit trees and farmland.

Flooding also blocked the road between Immit and Barjangle and damaged electricity transmission lines. Locals have called for urgent action to reopen the road.

The Karakoram Highway (KKH) was also closed between Sost and Khunjerab Top because of landslides. Authorities were working to clear the route.

In Hunza, the KKH section between Murtazaabad and Hassanabad was reopened after landslides blocked traffic.

Babusar Top in Diamer also received its first snowfall of the season on Saturday. Despite the snowfall, traffic on Babusar Road was normal.
