Govt to Export 108,000 Tons Surplus Sugar

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved an international tender for the export of 108,000 metric tons of sugar held by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).

The decision was taken on Wednesday at an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division in Islamabad.

The sugar is part of the 300,000 metric tons imported by the government last year on the recommendation of the Steering Committee on Sugar, which was constituted with Cabinet approval.

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research had sought permission to invite international bids for exporting the remaining 108,000 MT of sugar currently held by TCP.

The international tender will be conducted in accordance with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules 2004.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, federal secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries and divisions.
