Govt Sets 2-Month Deadline for Major Highway Project

Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to complete the Multan-Muzaffargarh-Mianwali highway within two months and prepare a feasibility study for a 123-kilometer model road project between Mansehra and Naran.

Khan issued the directives during a meeting that reviewed the progress of ongoing highway projects and proposals for new roads. The minister asked the NHA to present a feasibility study for the Mansehra-Naran project and said the 123-kilometer route could become an important project for both tourism and trade with China.

The NHA also decided to proceed with international tendering for the Guru Nanak Expressway on the minister’s instructions. Khan said the Guru Nanak Expressway would have religious importance for the Sikh community and called for international investment in the project.

He said the government would invite Sikh communities in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States to invest in the expressway. The meeting also examined construction work on different sections of the GT Road between Rawalpindi and Peshawar.

Khan directed the NHA to complete the Multan-Muzaffargarh-Mianwali highway within two months and ensure that officials implement all safety features at 100 percent. Officials also decided to construct safety railings during the expansion of the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the M-4 Motorway.

Khan directed the NHA to provide rest areas and washrooms on both sides of new highways and make newly completed projects safe and visually appealing. The authority also decided to make green belts mandatory on new highways and motorways.

Khan instructed the NHA to include horticulture as a formal component of its road projects. He further directed the authority to complete ongoing development projects as quickly as possible.
