Pakistan now faces temporary additional load management during peak nighttime hours after a shortage of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) reduced electricity generation, according to the Power Division.
The Power Division said the non-availability of an RLNG cargo resulted in a 3,600-megawatt reduction in power generation during night peak hours. Online public reaction to the Power Division’s post shows everyone is angry and doesn’t want excuses.

Generation from Mangla also declined by around 195 MW, adding to pressure on the power system. As a result, temporary load management of 1.5-3 hours is now being carried out during nighttime peak hours to balance electricity supply and demand.
The Power Division said furnace-oil-based power plants were also operated during peak hours to help meet electricity demand.
The government said the temporary load management would be reduced once the delayed RLNG cargo arrives at the port and fuel supplies improve.
The development has increased pressure on electricity supplies in Punjab, with reports of longer load-shedding in parts of the province, including Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad.
The Power Division clarified that there was no load management during daytime hours. However, areas facing load management due to high distribution losses are being supplied electricity according to their scheduled load-shedding plans.
The ministry urged consumers to limit electricity use during nighttime peak hours to help reduce pressure on the power system.
