The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet on Monday approved Rs. 75 billion for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme to provide targeted support to lower-income consumers facing higher petroleum prices.
Under the scheme, people using two- and three-wheelers will receive Rs. 500 per week in relief, equivalent to 5 litres of petrol at Rs. 100 per litre.
Owners of cars with engines up to 800cc will receive Rs. 1,000 every ten days. The relief is based on 30 litres of petrol per month at a rate of Rs. 100 per litre.
The scheme will be available only to non-commercial users and will be restricted to one vehicle per user or owner.
The Ministry of IT and Telecom will deploy and manage the Fuel Pass System (FPS) for digital implementation of the scheme. The government says the digital mechanism is intended to ensure that the relief reaches eligible consumers while improving transparency and accountability.
The Rs. 75 billion approved by the ECC will be provided as a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) for implementation of the fuel relief scheme.
By targeting smaller vehicles and limiting the benefit to non-commercial users, the government is seeking to direct the subsidy toward consumers considered more vulnerable to higher fuel prices.
