The federal government has approved an increase in dealers’ margins on petroleum products following massive pressure from dealers over their long-standing demand for a higher margin, sources told ProPakistani.
Sources said the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet a short while ago approved the revision in dealers’ margins on Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division on Friday.
The ECC considered a summary submitted by the Petroleum Division seeking revision of dealers’ margins on petroleum products. They have decided to revise it, sources added.
The decision comes after petroleum dealers announced plans for a nationwide shutdown from August 15 (tomorrow), demanding an increase in their margins and opposing the government’s daily fuel pricing mechanism.
The meeting was attended by Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, federal secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries and divisions.
