Google’s New Fitbit Edge Offers 50+ Workouts and Replaceable 7-Day Battery Life

Google has officially unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a new health and fitness tracker positioned between the simpler Fitbit Air and the more advanced Pixel Watch.

The wearable combines a slim design and minimalist OLED display with deeper health monitoring, improved GPS, AI-powered coaching, and up to a week of battery life.

Design and Display

The wearable features a minimalist OLED display with multiple clock faces. Users can customize complications to highlight information such as step count, sleep score, and weather.

Google also allows users to switch between clock faces quickly.

Standard color options include Obsidian, Fog, Olive, Canyon, and Stephen Curry Special Edition. That version includes a basketball-themed clock face, a Rye colorway, and a water-repellent, moisture-wicking band.

Other band options include the Active Sport band, Performance Loop, Metal Links, and Magnet band.

Gemini-Powered Health Coaching

The Fitbit Edge supports Google Health Coach, which is powered by Gemini.

With a Google Health Premium subscription, the system can use fitness, health, and medical information to create weekly routines and workout plans.

Those plans can automatically adjust based on the user’s schedule.

The Edge can track more than 50 exercise modes and provide real-time visual guidance during workouts, including prompts to increase effort or take a break.

Better GPS and Sleep Tracking

Google says the Fitbit Edge delivers a 40% improvement in GPS tracking accuracy compared with previous Fitbit models.

Sleep tracking has also been upgraded.

According to Google, sleep-stage detection is now 15% more accurate, helping the device produce better sleep summaries and coaching insights.

ECG and Continuous Heart Monitoring

The Fitbit Edge includes continuous heart-rate monitoring and rhythm assessments through its ECG app.

It can also notify users when it detects unusually high or low heart rates.

Google has added a feature called Health Guardian, which is designed to identify major changes in health metrics over time, including indicators related to blood pressure or insulin resistance.

These features are intended for health monitoring and should not be treated as a replacement for professional medical diagnosis.

Up to 7 Days of Battery Life

The Fitbit Edge uses a 65mAh battery. Google claims a full charge can last up to seven days, while five minutes of charging can provide enough power for a full day of use.

A complete charge takes around 90 minutes. The battery is also replaceable, which could extend the usable life of the tracker compared with wearables that use sealed batteries.

The device carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Price and Availability

The Fitbit Edge is available for preorder for $179.99 and will reach stores on October 27. Google is offering a Stephen Curry Special Edition starting at $219.99.

Every Fitbit Edge purchase also includes three months of Google Health Premium.
