Gold, Cash and Artefacts Stolen From Hindu Temple in Sindh

Unidentified thieves broke into the Maha Shakti Mata Temple in Sindh’s Shikarpur district and stole gold ornaments, cash, antiques, and other valuables reportedly worth millions of rupees.

Police and temple officials said the intruders broke the locks to enter the premises, which fall within the jurisdiction of Stuart Gunj police station.

Temple management said the stolen items included ornaments offered to idols, including a gold chain taken from an idol’s neck. The thieves also forced open a safe containing cash and donations from devotees.

Antique artefacts, crockery, and valuables kept in two cupboards were also reported missing.

Temple custodian Poon Kumar said the stolen property included valuable antiques and gold. Some of the cash and supplies had been set aside to help people in need, he added.

The temple’s management urged police to arrest the perpetrators and recover the stolen belongings.

Shikarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kaleem sought an initial report from ASP City Muhammad Asif and instructed officers to examine all possible angles.

According to a police spokesperson, the SSP directed investigators to use modern technology to help identify and arrest the suspects. He said safeguarding religious sites and protecting citizens’ lives and property remained priorities for district police.
