Punjab Orders Recall of Heart Medicine Over Quality Concerns

Punjab health authorities have ordered the recall of 10 batches of Lowplat Plus after laboratory testing found the medicine to be substandard.

According to a notice issued by the Directorate of Drug Control, Punjab, the Drug Testing Laboratory, Punjab, classified the affected batches as substandard after an impurity test.

Lowplat Plus contains clopidogrel bisulphate 75mg and aspirin 75mg. The affected batches carry expiry dates of January and February 2028.

The recalled batches include 6B300, 6B301, 6B268 and 6B277, which expire in January 2028, along with 6C135, 6C136, 6C137, 6C138, 6C129 and 6C270, which expire in February 2028.

Authorities have directed pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors and healthcare facilities to immediately stop dispensing the affected batches and report remaining stock and consumption records.

The manufacturer and market authorisation holder have also been ordered to begin an immediate recall, provide full distribution records and investigate the cause of the quality failure.

Patients and consumers have been advised to stop using the affected batches immediately, as they may pose a health risk.

The Directorate of Drug Control Punjab has also asked healthcare professionals to report any adverse effects linked to the recalled batches through the provincial pharmacovigilance system.
