The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will investigate an alleged Rs. 1.12 trillion tax theft involving cigarette companies and brands operating in Pakistan.
The Senate Subcommittee on Interior on Monday directed FIA to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities and submit its findings within 2 months.
The committee directed FIA to examine all cigarette companies and brands as part of the investigation into the alleged tax theft.
An inspector caught and reprimanded by the authorities was presented before the committee following his arrest by FIA on charges of allegedly receiving a bribe. The decision to probe related actors in the tobacco sector was made following his remarks to the panel.
