Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani visited petrol pumps in Jhelum on Wednesday to inspect the implementation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s fuel relief scheme, and at one point personally started filling fuel tanks for citizens.
During visits to petrol pumps in Jhelum, Sohawa and Dina, Kayani inspected registration camps and observed how citizens were being assisted with registration and token issuance.
The minister also personally helped citizens register through the 9771 SMS service and observed the process of obtaining fuel relief tokens.
After citizens received their tokens, Kayani personally filled petrol into their motorcycles. He also helped people send registration messages from their mobile phones and explained the token process.
Kayani directed the district administration to establish additional registration camps outside the District Headquarters Hospital and government colleges to make registration easier for citizens.
Deputy Commissioner Mir Raza Ozgun and other district officials briefed him on the scheme’s implementation at 91 petrol pumps across the district.
Kayani said he was visiting petrol pumps in Jhelum, Sohawa and Dina on the prime minister’s instructions to ensure that eligible citizens receive the relief. He said digital monitoring of token issuance and subsidized fuel distribution was also being carried out.
Under the scheme, motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and cars with engines up to 800cc are eligible for subsidized petrol.
Kayani said motorcycle users receive a Rs. 500 fuel token, while a person purchasing Rs. 600 worth of petrol would pay Rs. 100. Owners of 800cc vehicles are eligible for a monthly subsidy of Rs. 3,000.
The minister is scheduled to visit more petrol pumps and registration camps on Thursday to review the scheme’s implementation.
