A man once known in the arts and entertainment scene in his home country has been arrested in Dubai for allegedly promoting fraudulent freelance visas in exchange for money.
Authorities said he exploited people seeking employment opportunities and a better life in the UAE.
The arrest was made by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai in cooperation with Dubai Police after an investigation into illegal practices involving visas and residency permits.
The case began after authorities detected a fraudulent document in the possession of an individual. Further verification and investigation led them to the people allegedly involved in issuing and promoting the document.
Legal action has been taken against those involved in accordance with applicable laws.
According to authorities, some individuals and entities exploit job seekers by making false promises about employment, entry into the UAE, or residency regularization without following official procedures.
Officials said such offers are often promoted through digital platforms.
Authorities said the suspect had allegedly promoted fraudulent freelance visas for about two years through his personal TikTok and YouTube accounts, reaching followers who were looking for work.
He admitted that the visas were sold for between Dh7,000 and Dh9,000 and said more than 40 fraudulent visas had been obtained through the operation.
One victim said he paid Dh7,500 for a visa and a job for his sister but received nothing in return.
Officials urged people planning to travel to the UAE to complete visa and residency transactions only through official authorities and licensed service offices.
They also advised applicants to verify any offer through official channels before sharing personal information or making any payment.
Authorities said penalties for such violations can be severe, including fines, deportation, and heavier punishment for establishments involved in the fraud
