Papa Johns Pakistan has sparked questions about its future after publishing a cryptic “goodbye” message on Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
The pizza chain shared the message on its official social media accounts on August 13. The post directly addressed Pakistan and said it had been an honour to serve customers in the country.
“Dear Pakistan, it has been an honour to serve you — but on your 79th birthday, we’re sad to say goodbye,” the announcement reads.
The company ended the message with “Apka Apna Papa Johns Pakistan,” but did not explain what the goodbye means. It also did not say whether it plans to permanently close its restaurants, leave the Pakistani market, or make another major change to its local business.
As a result, the post should not yet be treated as confirmation that Papa Johns is shutting down across Pakistan. The company’s Pakistan website remains operational and continues to display its menu, online ordering options, rewards program and restaurant locator.
Moreover, Papa Johns International still lists Pakistan among the Asian markets where the global pizza chain has a presence.
Papa Johns entered Pakistan with its first restaurant in Lahore in 2019 and has since expanded its presence in the country. Its official LinkedIn page currently identifies Lahore as its headquarters in Pakistan.
For now, the Independence Day message appears to be a teaser or an announcement whose full meaning has not yet been revealed. Papa Johns Pakistan has not publicly provided further details explaining what exactly it is saying goodbye to.
