Punjab Announces Good News for School Teacher Interns

Punjab’s chief minister has approved the summary for School Teacher Interns (STIs), according to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat. He said all STIs would return to schools by next week at the latest.
Their contracts expired on May 22, before the summer holidays began. Around 25,000 interns have since been waiting for a decision on their return.
The Punjab Teachers Union had called for an early decision on the matter. It said government schools were facing teacher shortages that were affecting academic activities.
Many STIs had been waiting for a decision on their reappointment or contract extension since their contracts expired on May 22.
The chief minister has now approved the summary, but Hayat’s announcement does not specify an exact joining date, the length of the contracts or payment terms.
