Govt Warns Against Posting Family Photos Online
The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) have warned citizens against sharing their families’ daily routines, locations and personal information on social media, saying such posts could expose households to security risks.
In a public awareness advisory, the two organizations cautioned that seemingly harmless photographs, captions and daily updates could reveal sensitive information about family members, their activities and their whereabouts.
The advisory warned that sharing details about home environments and daily schedules could allow malicious individuals to identify personal habits and determine when family members are at home or away.
Citizens have been advised to avoid tagging their home locations, disclosing their whereabouts or posting information that reveals their families’ daily routines.
The advisory also urged users to limit the personal information they share about family members on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and X.
NCERT and NTC emphasized that protecting family privacy requires greater caution when posting online, as information shared publicly could be misused by others.
The organizations encouraged citizens to adopt safer social media practices and reduce unnecessary sharing of personal information to protect their families from potential security threats.
