Google’s September Pixel Drop introduced several improvements, including upgrades to the VIP contacts widget, stronger scam detection, and the Pause Point feature for older models. However, the update also appears to have introduced a serious lock screen bug for some Pixel users.
A Reddit user with a Pixel 10 Pro XL reported being unable to complete their pattern lock because the screen reset before they could connect even the second dot.
Another Pixel 10 Pro XL owner in the same thread experienced a similar problem but managed to fix it by performing a hard restart using the Power and Volume Down buttons. The first user could not find a working solution and eventually had to factory reset the phone.

Not Limited to Pattern Locks
The issue does not appear to be limited to the Pixel 10 Pro XL or pattern locks.
A Pixel 8a user reported that their phone showed a “wrong PIN” error immediately after they entered the first digit. Another user reported the same problem on a Pixel 8 Pro.
The reports suggest that the lock screen may be accepting input before users have finished entering their PIN or drawing their pattern.
Since Android does not allow one-digit PINs or one-segment patterns, this appears to be a software bug. The problem can also become more frustrating because repeated failed unlock attempts can temporarily lock users out of their phones for several minutes.
PixelCommunity, Google’s official support account, has seen the Reddit reports and contacted affected users to assist.
Older Devices Affected Too
Lock screen issues are not the only complaints linked to the latest update.
In another Reddit thread, owners of Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 devices reported that their phones became noticeably laggy after installing the September Pixel Drop.
Users who have not yet installed the September update may therefore want to wait until Google releases a fixed version addressing the reported issues.
