The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday concluded its hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency’s (CPPA) request to increase electricity tariffs by Rs. 1.20 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for June 2026.
During the hearing, CPPA officials said 13.07 billion units of electricity were sold during June. The reference fuel cost for the month had been set at Rs. 7.71 per unit, but the actual fuel cost reached Rs. 8.91 per unit, resulting in the proposed adjustment.
Officials attributed the higher fuel cost primarily to increased electricity generation from expensive RLNG-based power plants during the month.
NEPRA Member Maqsood Anwar urged authorities to move beyond discussions about cheaper electricity and take practical steps to ensure its delivery to consumers.
Following the hearing, the regulator reserved its decision on the proposed adjustment, which will be issued after completing its review.
