Dry Fruit Prices Increase as Winter Arrives

Dry fruit prices have risen sharply in Quetta as colder weather sets in, putting the popular winter snacks beyond the reach of many households.

Prices have reportedly increased by 30% to 40% overall this year, although the quoted rates for some varieties show steeper rises. The increases have strained household budgets and concerned residents who look forward to the seasonal treats.

Pistachios, which sold for Rs. 3,000 per kilogram last year, now cost up to Rs. 5,000. Meanwhile, almond prices have climbed by Rs. 1,200 to reach Rs. 3,200 per kilogram.

Cashews have also become more expensive, rising from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,500 per kilogram. Pine nuts, locally known as chilgoza, now sell for between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 8,000 per kilogram.

These prices have made buying dry fruits increasingly difficult for ordinary consumers during the winter season.

Shopkeepers say dry fruit prices previously increased once a year. Now, however, rates change within days, making the winter favorites increasingly costly for customers.
