Customs Seizes Smuggled Medicines Worth Rs. 8 Million at Karachi Airport
Customs has arrested a female passenger at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after allegedly recovering 50,340 foreign medicine tablets from her possession.
According to Assistant Collector Khizar Faiz, the passenger arrived from Muscat and was intercepted at the airport’s arrivals area following a tip-off.
The seized tablets were valued at Rs. 8,054,400. Officials said the medicines were being brought into the country in commercial quantities and could not be imported without certification from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Customs described the interception as an attempt to smuggle restricted foreign medicines into Pakistan. The tablets were seized under the Customs Act, and a case was registered against the passenger before she was arrested.
Faiz also said the woman had been named in other criminal cases registered by customs collectorates at different airports. He did not provide further details about those cases or their current status.
The restriction cited by officials concerns importing the medicines without the required DRAP certification, rather than an unconditional ban on the medicines themselves.
