Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he has left the Portugal national team camp following discussions with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) president and after comments made by the national team coach.
The Portugal captain shared the decision in a statement on Instagram, saying he decided to leave the national team setup after a conversation with the federation president.
“After the national team coach’s press conference, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp,” Ronaldo wrote.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he would reveal the reasons behind his departure at a later stage.
“In due course, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself,” he added.
Ronaldo also wished the team and his teammates success, expressing his support for Portugal despite his exit.
“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates, without exception, the best of luck,” he said.
