Court Orders OGDC to Pay Rs. 789 Million to Akbar Bugti’s Grandson

The Sindh High Court’s constitutional bench has ordered Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) to pay more than Rs. 789 million in gas royalty to Akbar Bugti’s grandson.

The court overturned an earlier decision by a single-member bench that had rejected the claim and directed the petitioner to submit a new succession certificate.

ProPakistani earlier reached out to OGDC for comment on the court order. It will be added when received.

The case was filed by Ali Bugti, grandson of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Akbar Bugti, over unpaid gas royalty.

According to the petition, OGDC had stopped paying the royalty in 2016. The petitioner approached the Sindh High Court seeking royalty payments for the period from 2011 to 2016.

His lawyer told the court that OGDC had an agreement with Nawab Zong Khan Bugti regarding the gas royalty. Zong Khan Bugti died in Florida, United States, on March 3, 1995.

OGDC continued making royalty payments until 2011, after which the payments were stopped.

The court has now ordered OGDC to pay Rs. 789,092,099 in gas royalty to Ali Bugti and set aside the earlier single-bench ruling.
