China relies heavily on app-based payments, with WeChat Pay and Alipay widely used across the country. While tourists could already use both services, WeChat has now launched a dedicated payment app for international visitors called TenPayGo.
TenPayGo can be used anywhere that accepts WeChat Pay, meaning tourists don’t need to have a Chinese bank account for payments.
Users can download the app and set it up with an email address. They can then choose to pay through Apple Pay, another supported payment wallet, or a bank card directly through the app.
TenPayGo supports nearly 60 international payment wallets. When users purchase in China, the payment is charged through their selected mobile wallet or card.

More Than Just Payments
The app also includes several travel-related features.
Users can take a photo of a landmark or object to identify it through the app. TenPayGo can also translate restaurant menus.
The service will soon add support for public transport tickets in Shenzhen.
TenPayGo also plans to introduce an easier tax refund system, with Shenzhen again set to be the first city to receive the feature.
