The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to allot land to the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) even six years after receiving around Rs. 4 billion from the institution.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday demanded an immediate resolution. He issued these instructions while reviewing progress on several development projects and directed the CDA to either provide PIDE with the required land or return its Rs. 4 billion.
PIDE deposited the amount with the CDA between 2017 and 2020 but has yet to receive the land. The institution has reportedly been pursuing the matter with the CDA since 2022, without a viable solution.
The minister expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay and said PIDE urgently requires the land. He questioned how ordinary citizens could expect their issues to be resolved fairly when a public institution was facing such delays.
The minister directed the CDA to provide a clear and immediate response, stressing that the matter could no longer be kept pending.
The meeting also reviewed the Kachhi Canal Phase-II project. The minister directed authorities to maintain high construction standards and ensure strict compliance throughout the project. He also called for the Government of Balochistan to be consulted on available options to move the project forward.
Progress on the 35-kilometre Loralai-Zhob road was also discussed, with the minister directing authorities to address delays and complete the project within the required timeline.
The Allama Iqbal Memorial and Iqbal Library project also came under review. The minister directed the authorities to develop the library according to international standards and begin work without further delay.
The minister further instructed the CDA to move the project summary within three days, noting that the coming year would be observed as the Year of Allama Iqbal.
He directed all concerned departments to accelerate work on the projects and ensure timely implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives.
