Carrie trailer teases Mike Flanagans modern spin on Stephen Kings classic novel

A woman in a prom queen dress stands smiling on a stage.

What would have happened to Carrie if she’d gone to school in the age of smartphones and the internet?

The trailer above for Mike Flanagan’s Prime Video adaptation of Stephen King‘s classic novel sets out to answer that question, placing Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) into a present-day version of King’s nightmarish story about a bullied girl with telekinetic powers.

Judging by the trailer, the key moments from the book have been kept. But the forever nature of the internet looks set to make Carrie’s suffering all the more painfully relatable.

Following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next week, Carrie debuts on streaming on Prime Video Oct. 7.
