British-Pakistani consultant gynecologist and robotic surgeon Dr. Amer Raza has set a new record in Britain after leading a program that has completed more than 400 single-port robotic gynecological procedures.
A graduate of Nishtar Medical College in Multan, Dr. Raza is Lead Consultant for Endometriosis and Robotic Surgery at Cromwell Hospital in London. He and his team have expanded the use of single-port robotic surgery from routine gynecological procedures to highly complex endometriosis operations.
Unlike conventional robotic surgery, which generally requires multiple abdominal incisions, single-port surgery allows the camera and several robotic instruments to operate through a single entry point.
The program has also become a training center, with more than 100 surgeons from the UK and abroad visiting to observe complex procedures and learn about the technology.
Dr. Raza has received two Master Surgeon accreditations in Robotic Surgery and Advanced Endometriosis Care from the US-based Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). He is reportedly the only consultant in Europe to hold both accreditations.
The latest milestone follows another record set by Dr Raza three years ago, when he led a team that performed 12 major gynecological operations in a single day at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Dr. Raza, who has worked in the UK for more than 25 years, continues to maintain professional links with Pakistan. He said he plans to work with partners in Pakistan to help introduce advanced robotic surgery and modern treatment techniques.
