Big Cabinet Reshuffle Likely This Month

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has begun reviewing the performance of federal ministers and ministries as the government considers possible changes to the federal cabinet and senior bureaucracy, sources told ProPakistani.

Sources said the government is considering changes in the federal cabinet and senior bureaucracy. Ministers of state who have performed well could also be considered for promotion to federal minister, they said.

The Prime Minister’s Office has sought performance reports from federal ministries and divisions covering the period from February 2024 to date. The reports are expected to help determine the future roles of cabinet members.

Shehbaz is also holding individual meetings with federal ministers to assess their performance and progress in their respective ministries. The prime minister is expected to complete the review this month.

Performance reports from two institutions have already reached the prime minister, according to the sources.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also called for a better assessment of cabinet members and proposed a third party audit of ministry performance. Any cabinet reshuffle is expected to follow the completion of the performance review.

Sources added that Shehbaz will consult his party chief and former PM Nawaz Sharif before making a final decision, with performance reports and political consultations both expected to factor into the process.
