Bangladesh Premier League 2026/27 Canceled

Bangladesh’s premier T20 competition, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), will not be held this year as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) prepares to overhaul the troubled tournament.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal confirmed the decision on Thursday, saying several franchises had breached rules and regulations and the board was also dealing with unpaid dues and bank guarantee issues.

According to Tamim, the BCB has suffered losses of around $3.3 million from the BPL over the past two years.

He said the BPL remains a strong cricketing product with significant interest, but the board cannot continue hosting the tournament at a loss.

“Our intention is 1,000 per cent to host BPL. But I do not want to rush. I want to do it properly,” Tamim said, adding that the process could take six or 12 months if necessary.

The BCB has already started discussions with existing franchises and plans to complete the franchise process by April or May next year. The extended timeline will allow the board to find replacements if any existing franchise defaults.

Tamim, who recently became chairman of the International Cricket Council’s new Franchise League Committee, said Bangladesh’s experience with the BPL made the restructuring particularly important.

The BCB is also open to bringing foreign franchises into the competition as part of the planned overhaul.
