The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) announced the draw and match schedule for the hockey competition at the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
According to the draw, Pakistan’s men’s hockey team has been placed in Pool B of the 12-team competition alongside Malaysia, China, Oman, Uzbekistan and Thailand.
Pool A consists of India, Japan, Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
The Green Shirts will begin their Asian Games campaign against Thailand on September 20 before facing Uzbekistan the following day.
Pakistan will then take on China in their third group-stage match on September 24.
The team will complete the preliminary round with matches against Malaysia on September 26 and Oman on September 28.
Under the tournament format, each team will play against all other teams in its respective pool during the league stage.
The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals, which are scheduled for October 1.
The remaining teams will compete in classification matches, while the winners of the two semi-finals will advance to the gold medal match on October 3.
Pakistan’s Asian Games campaign will come a month after their drought-ending appearance at the FIH Hockey World Cup, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium from August 15 to 30.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against England on August 15 before facing Wales in their second group-stage match on August 17.
The Green Shirts will conclude the league stage with a high-profile clash against traditional rivals India on August 19.
